50 youths to become qualified carpenters


Malake Women 2Fifty youths from the province of Ra will soon become qualified carpenters following completion of a two-week carpentry training at Savulotu village in Ra.
The training targeted youths from 10 villages of Nakorotubu-i-vanua District and also includes youth participants from the districts of Nalawa and Saivou in Ra.
Youth Manager Western Division, Valami Naloga, said  that the carpentry training is gaining popularity in the province of Ra as many villages and youths have benefitted from the courses organised by the Ministry earlier this year to support villages re-build their homes as part of the Help for Homes initiative.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports, through the Technical College of Fiji, is providing this accredited training on the basic and safe use of carpentry hand tools, setting of building sites, building lines, floor framing and flooring, erecting timber wall framing for wall frame construction, construction of timber gable roofs.
Naloga added that, at the completion of the training, trainees will receive accredited certificates that will help them pursue further training and employment opportunities.
