Dengue on the wane in American Samoa


eight_col_Z3410301-Asian_tiger_mosquito-SPLAmerican Samoa’s Health Department’s latest report on dengue fever shows that the threat from the mosquito borne disease is continuing to weaken.

Since the outbreak began in May, the Department has recorded 471 suspected cases of dengue fever at the LBJ Hospital and community health centers.

In that time period 143 had been hospitalised with four confirmed dengue related deaths.

The Department says the peak was in August and since they have been seeing fewer suspected cases each week.

Manu’a remains dengue free.
