Stakeholders and members of the public had the opportunity to raise issues and suggestions on the Draft National Employment Policy at consultations in Nadi and Sigatoka.
Led by the Minister for Employment, Jone Usamate, the Draft policy is to identify and implement ways on employment in Fiji in line with our National Development Plan Development Goal 8, which is ‘inclusive and sustainable economy and decent work for all.
The interactive sessions with hoteliers, construction companies, youths and the vanua who were present allowed the ministry and the attendees to further gain knowledge on the policy which would form the nucleus for the Fijian workforce.
“This stakeholder awareness and consultation is critical in order to discuss issues, gaps, opportunities on the Policy before its endorsement and implementation,” Minister Usamate said.
“This policy allows the unemployed to choose freely their employment preferences, whether to join the formal employment service or self-employment service, foreign employment service or to become a volunteer including becoming a professional sports person.”
The Policy is a result of robust analysis and consultations around the country and aims to enhance the dynamics of the labour market
