Ex Cop gets 12 years for teen rape

Screen Shot 2017-01-31 at 4.28.40 PMA former policeman who was found guilty of raping a 17 year old will spend 12 years and 11 months in prison.

Michael Pratap was sentenced today by Suva High Court Judge Justice Vincent Perera who has also imposed a non-parole period of 11 years and 11 months.

Pratap was found guilty on 3 counts of Rape of a minor by the three assessors to which Justice Perera concurred with.

Michael Pratap raped a school girl at a Police Compound last year.

In Court the girl had recognized the man saying he knew the Policeman as he had driven a Green Car with Archangel Michael printed on the bumper.

He dragged the girl to an old Gym and molested her.

The Judge said he believed the complainant’s version of the story of what transpired on the afternoon of January 22 2016.

Justice Parera also stated there were inconsistencies in the evidence of Pratap’s alibis.
