After qualifying from the Hockey World League Round One held in Suva last month, the Fiji men’s and women’s teams eased through to the next round after beating their Pacific rivals at the National Hockey Centre.
It was an announcement may had not expected from the Fiji Hockey Federation President today.
“Fiji will not take part in Singapore, it has been confirmed last night to the competitions manager,” said Fiji Hockey President Doctor Robin Mitchell.
This means that Fiji will not be represented at the World Hockey League Round 2 in both the men’s and women’s division in Singapore next month.
The lack of finance is the key reason behind the decision to pull out from the event.
The other reason is the heavy commitment in the 2015 season for the Fiji Hockey Federation.
The timing for the World Hockey League Round 2 also has not helped.
And by making the decision – Fiji Hockey has also avoided penalties.
With Fiji now out of the picture – their replacement at the World Hockey League round 2 is yet to be decided.
