Kumar 1A former Fijian citizen and an aged care worker has faced court charged with sexual assault of an elderly resident in a nursing home in Padstow Heights, Australia.

47 year old Manoj Kumar has been charged with aggravated sexual assault.

ABC News reports Kumar is accused of assaulting the woman in her 70s at the aged care facility on October 21.

Kumar, who works as a nursing assistant at the facility, was arrested at his home in Heckenberg yesterday, after staff reported the allegation to police.

Liverpool Local Court heard that Manoj Kumar had worked at the facility for nine years and had no criminal history.

Kumar’s lawyer pointed out that there was a delay of several days before the complaints were investigated, due to communication difficulties with the woman.

His lawyer also said there was no DNA or forensic evidence to substantiate the alleged assault and the exact details of the woman’s claims were unclear.

But Magistrate Sharon Holdsworth noted that the alleged victim’s version is “corroborated to some extent by CCTV”.

During the proceedings, Kumar sat in the dock with his arms crossed and stared down into his lap at times.

Kumar was granted bail on strict conditions, including that he only leave his home in Heckenberg with his wife.

His employment has been suspended with full pay until the legal proceedings are dealt with, the court heard.

He is due to appear at Burwood Local Court on December 7
