Grants to first time home buyers not properly utilised

firstThe auditor-general has found, that a significant amount of the budget set aside to assist first time home buyers, hadn’t been used to it’s maximum from 2012 to 2016.

To encourage home ownership, Government started an initiative to give 5 and 10 thousand dollars, as grants to those who needed financial assistance.

However, audits found in 2016, show only 30 percent of the budget was used – 40 percent was used in 2015, and 11 percent was utilized in 2014.

Not one single person was assisted in 2013.

The auditor-general says the Department of Housing should review its current strategies, to let more people get assistance in a timely manner.
