Inmates appear in court for rape

Picture5The trial of three men charged with the alleged rape of an inmate at the Suva Corrections Center continued at the Suva High Court today.

The former inmate on day two of the trial at the Suva High Court revealed how he was raped by three men at the Suva Corrections center.

He said the severity of the sexual assault resulted in him losing alot of blood.

He could not recall how he was taken to the hospital.

This is after the Defense counsel questioned his integrity in a contradictory statement he gave in court.

The contradiction was whether the victim was allegedly raped on the floor as stated in the Police Statement , or in the dormitory bed as stated in Court.

The victim said he was really sick in hospital when his statement was recorded.

He said whatever he stated in court were true.

Inmates Jonacani Ciritabua, Tevita Qaqanivalu, and Sefton Tupou are charged with rape and alleged to have dragged the prisoner to the dormitory bathroom and raped him with a broom handle.

The victim sustained internal injuries.

The victim said there were no prison officers present when the incident occurred.
