Our west team spoke to the man behind a campaign to try and get authorities to re-think their decision.

Writer, Allen Lockington is one of the faces behind the petition on the proposed development works that will be carried out on Shirley Park.

Other like him include Mod Elbourne, who help put the petition together.

Lockington says they only knew about the consultative process with City Council and the Local Government Ministry a few weeks after it was published in a newspaper.

The group gathered support for a petition via social media.

He says while the multi- million dollar development works will generate jobs and develop tourism they hope authorities will look favourably on their concerns.

While they have managed 500 signatures from many that live in the City, they will continue to press on.

Meanwhile Chief Executive officer of Lautoka City Council Jone Nakauvadra who declined a camera interview said the Council welcomes objections by members of the public.

Objections will be considered by the line ministry which will decide whether consultations take place.
