Men jailed for rape of children

Judicial-System-Uses-Affluenza-UnfairlyA 23-year-old man of Bua has been sentenced to 13 years imprisonment for raping a 10-year-old boy.

Sentencing Maikeli Rasese, Justice Salesi Temo ruled a non parole period of 12 years.

In 2013, the man had carnal knowledge of the boy on more than one occasion.

A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for raping a mentally slow 14-year-old girl.

Ritesh Chand raped the girl after luring her into a vacant house in Labasa.

Justice Temo ruled a non parole period of 7 years.

And another man from Labasa has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for raping an 18-year-old girl.

25-year-old Hind Lal, a fifth year student at FNU Labasa, lured the first year student to his flat on the pretext of giving her FNU papers and textbooks.

After he raped her, he did not allow her to return home, unless he took naked pictures of her.

He then warned her to return and have sex with him in future or he would post her naked pictures on Facebook.

Chand called her three times and he raped her each time.

The 14 year sentence carries a non parole period of 12 years.

And a Tavua man has been found guilty of raping his 7-year-old niece by performing oral sex on her.

The man who is related to the victim’s father threatened to punch the victim if she reported the incident.

The man was staying temporarily at the victim’s house when he committed the act.
