National centennial celebrations to remember Girmityas

screen-shot-2016-10-25-at-4-43-17-pmThe Fijian Government has today announced a national celebration to remember the last ship of indentured laborers to arrive on our shores 100 years ago.

Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says on the 9th of November there will be a celebration at Suva Albert Park, and from the 10th to 11th of November the celebrations will be held in all majors town around the country.

“It is the sign of maturity of any nation to be able to deal with its past, and deal with its past with a lot of honesty and sincerity and call it as it is, but not live in the past, we need to learn from the past we need to celebrate the hardships that people actually overcame and then led normal lives.”

Vodafone FIji has given the government a total of One Hundred Thousand Dollars for the celebrations.
