Pacific Nations out to create more history

By: Irfaan Khan

QTR FNLPacific Island teams will be out to create history when the Rugby League World Cup quarterfinals takes place this weekend.

First up will be Toa Samoa who face an imposing clash against defending champions Australia in Darwin.

The fifth ranked Samoans reached the playoffs despite failing to win any of their group games, following earlier defeats by New Zealand and Tonga but qualified after a 14-all draw against Scotland last week.

Tonga’s stunning 28-22 upset of New Zealand earlier evening ensured the Group B winners a more favourable quarter final match-up against Lebanon in Auckland.

The Kiwis will now take on Group D winners the Fiji Bati in Wellington in the third quarterfinal.

Papua New Guinea will be featuring in the last quarterfinal on Sunday with a showdown against England in Melbourne.
