Pacific Women Parliamentarians address family violence

11187370_954935991206003_8701810993522337324_oConcerted efforts are being made by the Pacific Women parliamentarians to address the issue of family violence in the region.

Into its second day, talks are underway at the Pacific Women Parliamentary Partnership Forum in Suva where 30 Pacific women parliamentarians are attending joined by another 21 Parliamentarians from Australia and New Zealand.

The Speaker of Fiji’s Parliament Dr Jiko Luveni said the statement made by the Prime Minister on Family Violence yesterday shows to the Pacific Fiji’s stand on the issue.

” He was very comfortable in talking about the topic yesterday because he continues to talk about this topic in his visits to communities so it was not something new , its something he continues to highlight and then coming to this forum expresses to the Pacific where Fiji stands in its commitment to preventing family violence.” said Dr Luveni
