Pivac relishing Kings challenge

pivacScarlets head coach Wayne Pivac says a season opener against newcomers Southern Kings in the new-look PRO14 is a great way for the champions to get the ball rolling in 2017/18.

With the fixtures finally confirmed for the forthcoming season yesterday Scarlets can now get themselves ready, prepared and excited to welcome the reigning champions home to Parc y Scarlets for the opening weekend of the season.

Speaking at the first press conference of the season Pivac said that it’s a season opener that should whet everyone’s appetite.

“I think it’ll be great for the fans. We’ve come off a very successful season and we’ve been working very hard during the off-season to make sure we start a little bit better than we did last season.

“To have the Kings at home I think there’ll be a lot of interest and I’ll be surprised if we don’t get a good crowd for that. It’s a good kick off time on a Saturday afternoon; let’s just hope the weather’s good so that we can see some running rugby.

“The South Africans will be somewhat of an unknown quantity early on. With us, we’re going to be concentrating on what we’re doing ahead of that first match and hopefully replicating some of the form from last season.”
