Rakiraki soccer faces a do or die situation this weekend where they have to win two games in the Vodafone premier league.
The small rural team faces relegation to the senior division if they fail do so.
The team in maroon has been struggling in the premier division competition since their promotion earlier this year.
They have only one point to their name and with three matches to be played, Rakiraki needs to register at least 6 points, hoping Dreketi loses two of their remaining games.
Rakiraki meets Dreketi on Saturday and faces Labasa on Sunday at home.
“These two games will decide if we remain in the premier division or we go down to the senior division. So we have told the players that this has come to the do or die situation and we have to win both the games this weekend,” said Pragdeesh Gounder – Rakiraki Coach.
Some seasoned players who were hired from other districts hadn’t played for Rakiraki in the last few weeks, but they have summoned this weekend.
“We have asked the boys to come into camp this week and we are getting some older players who were with us before, players like Lawrence Ronald and Salesh Sami Bula. They will be joining our squad this week.”
And the team coach is pleading with Rakiraki soccer fans not to give up on them now.
“I ask the fans to come out in numbers to cheer the Rakiraki team and hopefully we are going to have a win this weekend.”
And time will tell if the team delivers the result or is stretchered out of the premier division.
