With the Education Ministry getting the largest chunk of the budgetary allocation in the 2017 – 2018 financial year, the Minister for Economy has urged the ministry to ensure the grant is used wisely and properly administered.
The Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum officially opened the Ministry of Education’s Planning Workshop at the Pearl Resort in Pacific Harbour.
Close to 30 senior officers from the Education Ministry took part in the 2-days workshop.
The AG highlighted various issues ranging from the ongoing civil service reforms, performance management system, job evaluation and the need for all the ministry staff to work together and support their permanent secretary in ensuring effective service delivery.
He emphasised the need to generate and transmit right data and information to relevant authorities and stakeholders to enable fair decision making as well as the need to uphold the integrity of the profession and accountability to the government and all Fijians.
The AG challenged the senior officers to take advantage of the technological advancement, such as digitisation, to bring about positive changes in the education opportunities for Fijian children in remote and maritime areas.
