Authorities are currently focusing on humanitarian assistance providing immediate relief supplies such as food packs, water, temporary shelters and sanitation.
Some recovery work on rebuilding homes, infrastructure and essential services have started.
“We have focused now on three critical areas. One is on infrastructure. The other one is on education and health and of course the other on essential services,” said Inia Seruiratu, the Minister for National Disaster Management.
“Right now the focus is on the humanitarian phase that has taken precedence and later we will be working with the Ministry of Finance. Planning with some of the donors which we will be doing in helping the country develop and to prioritize the country plan,” added United Nations Humanitarian coordinator, Osnat Lubrani.
