Carlos Spencer has joined the side ahead of his appearance as a wildcard for this weekend’s Brisbane Tens.
The iconic first five left the side 12 years ago bound for Europe, but coach Tana Umaga says he is still impressive in fitness testing.
“Probably not where he said he could have been when he was younger but he’s still one bronco up on me and I’ve been here for three years, and I still don’t intend in doing one.”
And Umaga says he is reluctant to put a specific date on when Stephen Perofeta might return.
The first-five is out of action with a broken bone in his hand, suffered in a pre-season game last week.
A media release from the team says he is likely to be out for six weeks, which could see him miss the opening three matches of his side’s campaign.
But Umaga is holding back from setting a specific target just yet.
“I want to make sure that he’s got a few days to make sure and to see those times for sure. We’re obviously looking at it positively and Stevie is too.”
Akira Ioane and Caleb Clarke headline the Blues squad for this week’s Brisbane Tens alongside wildcard Carlos Spencer.
