Apolonia Vaivai from Weightlifting and Meli Malani from Swimming were awarded with Sportswoman and Sportsman of the Year awards respectively, at the Fiji Sports Awards last night at the Vodafone Arena.
Despite both athletes being absent from the prestigious awards night… the moment was cherished by both their respective Federations
The stage was all set for one of the biggest night in the sporting calendar.
Athletes and officials from all the sporting federation in Fiji gathered to honor each other during the Fiji Sports Awards night at Vodafone Arena.
Fiji Weightlifting’s Apolonia Vaivai for the first time won Fiji Sports Womens of the year award.
Her achievements of last year was winning bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games and grabbing a Olympic Scholarship New Caledonia.
Weightlifting Fiji is now looking forward to win more gold in the Pacific Games in July.
And out of the top 10 nominees, Fiji Swimming’s Meli Malani was crowned the Fiji Sportsman of the year.
Malani whose in US – his achievements for year 2014 was competing at all the club, national, regional and international competition, being ranked number 1 in his event here in Fiji and sealing a scholarship in US.
Meanwhile in the other major category Grace Yee of Fiji Tale Tennis was named the Young Female Athlete, male award went to Amenatave Veitamana while coach of year was Iliesa Irava of Powerlifting and Sports Team of the year went to Fiji U20 Football team.
