Villages recognised for taking action on violance against women

 

Hon Vuniwaqa handing over the Certificate of Committment for the Phase 6 Zero Tolerance on Violence Against women and Children to Mr Iliesa Ratusele  @ Nakawakawa Village, Wainunu in Bua_resized_5The Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa yesterday handed over Certificates of Commitment to two villages.

The certificates were handed over to the Tui  Navadra, Ratu Jope Tuitoga in Viani Village Cakaudrove and to Iliesa Ratusake in Nakawakawa Village,  Bua for  the community’s participation training to make them a Zero Tolerance on Violence Against Women and Children Community.

This comes at the completion of 6 of the 10 phases under this program.

Vuniwaqa reiterated government’s toll free assistance available for all Fijians in the form of the Child Helpline 1325 and Domestic Violence Helpline 1560 to seek urgent assistance in cases of abuse and neglect.

Vuniwaqa advocated on the protection and respect of women and children’s dignity… in the light of the program.

She added the Ministry launched the Man Up Campaign last week to encourage all men to be  part of the elimination of violence against women and children.

Vuniwaqa encouraged the women’s group  to work closely with the Vanua and Faith Based Organisations so they can achieve their aim on eliminating violence against women and children.
