The French club, coached by former All Black Simon Mannix, on Friday announced their squad for next month’s two-day tournament and it includes the likes of Conrad Smith and Colin Slade, both Rugby World Cup winners with the All Blacks in 2011 and 2015.
Smith and Slade, who both signed for Pau in 2015, are joined by Tom Taylor, Benson Stanley, Frank Halai and Jamie Mackintosh and the seventh All Black, whose identity will be revealed in the coming days, will be their wildcard player.
Also included are former Southland and Wellington lock Daniel Ramsay, as well as ex-Wallabies captain Ben Mowen and five-time England international Steffon Armitage.
Former All Blacks playmaker Carlos Spencer, 42, will be the Blues’ wildcard player in Brisbane.
“Nobody ever forgets where they come from – where they were formed as rugby players, what their influences were,” he said in a statement.
“For the likes of Conrad Smith, Tom Taylor, Frank Halai, Benson Stanley and Jamie Mackintosh, these guys have such tremendous pride as New Zealanders and in New Zealand rugby.”
Last year’s inaugural Brisbane Tens was won by the Chiefs and the second edition of the tournament, which this year features 16 teams, is held at Suncorp Stadium on February 9-10.
